The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team made the trip west on Thursday night, to take on the Spirit Lake Indians in the first round of Class 2A, District 2 action at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake. Spirit Lake entered with a 9-5 record on the 2022 season.
Webster City went on the offensive first, as an Eduardo Perez assist set up the first of two Eric Calles goals to give Webster City a 1-0 lead. Spirit Lake would answer soon thereafter with a goal to tie it a 1-1 in the 8th minute. Play would slow down for a good chunk of the first half, but before the halftime break, Eddy Fuentes found the back of the net off a Eric Calles assist to put Webster City up 2-1 at halftime.
The Lynx came out in the second half with a defensive approach, dealing with the wind in their face for the final stanza, but still managed to get a third goal on the board courtesy of Eric Calles in the 62nd minute to give Webster City a 3-1 lead. Spirit Lake would get a goal back a few minutes later after a penalty kick, but the Lynx would hold on for a 3-2 win.
Webster City will return to action on Monday, when they face Class 2A #1 Humboldt in Humboldt.
