Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball falls to South Hardin, 9-5

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball team held their third game in three days on Wednesday night, as the Cowboys welcomed in the South Hardin Tigers to Hanson Park in Clarion. The Tigers entered with an 0-1 record, following a 5-1 loss to South Tama County.

The scoring started early for the Tigers, as Jaxon Drury smashed a 2-out, 2-run RBI Double to give South Hardin an early 2-0 lead. The Tigers would build off that lead in the 3rd, adding 3 more runs in the frame, 2 of them courtesy of RBI Groundouts, to take a 5-0 lead. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows would answer in the bottom of the third, plating a pair of runs to make it 5-2.

However, South Hardin continued to pray on Mason Allen’s pitching, plating 3 more runs in the top of the 4th to take a 8-2 lead. Allen would allow 8 runs off of 3 hits, walked 7 and struck out 3. The Cowboys would get 2 more back in the bottom of the 5th, and a run in the bottom of the 6th to cut it to 8-5. South Hardin would add a key insurance run off a wild pitch in the top of the 7th, and Cole Williamson picked up the save to seal a 9-5 win for the Tigers.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Friday night, when they host Forest City at Hanson Park, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
