The Webster City Lynx baseball team opened up their 2022 campaign on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Eagle Grove Eagles in a battle of old North Central Conference foes. Eagle Grove entered following a 3-1 win over Southeast Valley on Monday night.
The bats were loud early and often for Webster City, as the Lynx put three on the board in the first inning with RBI’s from Devon Stoakes, CJ Hisler and Keegan Hisler. The Eagles would answer with a run in the 2nd inning on a Mack Morgan RBI single, but Webster City would respond with three more runs in the bottom of the 2nd to take a 6-1 advantage.
Scoring would take a pause for 2 1/2 innings, until the bottom of the 5th when Keegan Hisler led of the frame with a solo home run to right field to put the Lynx up 7-1. Relief pitcher Blake Morgan would struggle with command, allowing 5 runs in the frame to end the game after 5 innings with an 11-1 Webster City victory.
Devon Stoakes was the winning pitcher with 3 innings pitched, 1 run off of 4 hits and 5 strikeouts. Cayden Schultz was the losing pitcher with 2 innings of work, 6 runs off of 8 hits and 3 strikeouts. Webster City will host Ballard on Thursday night at Webster City High School, while Eagle Grove is off until Monday, when they open conference play up at Forest City.
