The South Hamilton Hawks baseball made the trip South on US Highway 69 on Monday evening, to face off with former Heart of Iowa Conference foe North Polk at North Polk High School in Alleman. The Comets entered 2022 after a 21-12 season in 2021, while South Hamilton entered following a 19-6 record in 2021.
North Polk put on the offensive in the 1st inning, scoring 4 runs (3 earned) to take a 4-0 lead. South Hamilton starter Elijah Balderas settled in following the rough first inning, not allowing a run in the following 3 innings, however the margin stayed at 4-0. North Polk pitchers Kole Krings and Nick Cox kept the Hawks at bay, until the top of the 5th inning, when the game was called due to the lights malfunctioning at the North Polk field.
South Hamilton will return to action on Tuesday night, as they host the Panorama Panthers in Jewell. First pitch is slated for 7:30 PM.
