The Eagle Grove Eagles baseball team opened their 2022 season on Monday night, as they made the trip to southern Webster County to take on the Southeast Valley Jaguars in Dayton. Southeast Valley comes into 2022 off of a 15-13 season in 2021, while Eagle Grove was 11-13 in 2021.
Both teams would get a run across in the 2nd inning, with Cayden Schultz scoring on a Jordan Morris RBI for Eagle Grove, and Justin Loseke scoring on a wild pitch for Southeast Valley. Scoring would be put on lockdown after that, as Jake Jeske threw 6 no-hit innings with 15 strikeouts, while Southeast Valley starter Kolson Kruse went 5 2/3 innings, allowing 3 runs on 2 hits with 10 strikeouts.
In the top of the 6th, a Cayden Schultz 2-out double scored Jake Jeske and Blake Morgan to give Eagle Grove a 3-1 lead, leaving Kruse in line for the loss. Jordan Morris would come on for a save opportunity in the 7th, and struckout the side to end the game and seal a season-opening win for the Eagles, as well as a combined no-hitter.
Eagle Grove returns to action on Tuesday, when they face off with the Webster City Lynx at Webster City High School at 7:30 PM.
