The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows baseball team made a north-bound trip on Monday night, as they opened their season against the Buffaloes of North Iowa in Buffalo Center. The Cowboys looked to improve off of a 1-21 season a year ago, while North Iowa was 12-12 a year ago.
The story of the night was the top 6 of the CGD lineup, which hammered both of North Iowa’s pitchers on Monday night. Nevan Foss put together a 3-for-3 night with 2 RBI’s and a pair of doubles, while Cael Chase put together a 2-for-2 night, with a pair of singles and 2 RBI’s as well. Mason Allen also contributed 2 RBI’s off a single, while Preston Gardner and Cael Chase add an RBI each in a 10-run output for the Cowboys.
Errors were the story for North Iowa, as the Buffaloes committed 7 errors on the night, which meant only 2 of the Cowboys 10 runs were of the earned variety. CGD pitcher Cael Chase would pitch 4 1/3 innings with 8 strikeouts and 5 walks, as Carson Nesheim retired the final 2 batters in the 5th to seal a 10-0 victory after the 5th inning.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will return to action on Tuesday night, as they host Southeast Valley in Clarion, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
