The South Hamilton school board Monday evening approved a two-year contract for superintendent Heather Holm through June 30,2024. The contract was announced after the evalution of the superintendent. This was Holm’s first year as South Hamilton superintendent.
Iowa Association of School Board certifictes were presented to the South Hamilton board in commemoration of National School Board Appreciation Month. A rooftop lease renewal agreement with Heartland Cooperative was approved. Fundraisers with Kona Ice and Color Run set for May 11 for the student council were approved.
There has been multiple repairs underway due to recent wind damage. The work involves repairing the fence at the high school track, work on the elementary roof to begin next month and work on the baseball dugout will begin soon. The athletic fields have received their regular maintenance for the spring.Shot clocks will be installed at the high school gym and a new scoreboard will be installed in the elementary gym over the summer.
Graduation day is coming Sunday,May 22 at 2:00 in the high school gymnasium. The South Hamilton school board Monday evening approved the list of 62 graduates to receive their diplomas pending the completion of all graduation requirements.
In another matter, the South Hamilton school board approved the proposed Computer Science Plan. This plan requires that all Iowa K-12 schools provide computer instruction as required by House File 2629.The plan will be implemented for the 2022-23 school year.
The South Hamilton junior/senior high summer school plan and wages were approved. Wages would be set $30 for teachers and $20 for associates. ESSER (Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief) funds and Special Education funds will be used for the summer school costs.
There was the approval of purchasing the elementary math curriculum and professional development. This is the VisionMath curriculum materials for K-6. The purchase includes consumable materials and online access for students and teachers for six years. The professional development costs of $8,150 will be paid from professional development funds pending teacher quality committee approval and the materials costs of $46,718 will be paid from the flexibility account. This would be a purchase for the 2023 fiscal year after July 1,2022. The South Hamilton school board approved the bid from Mullenbach Construction to paint the main hallways, library wall sections, band room and the gym ceiling at the elementary school this summer.
