The Webster City Lynx girls tennis team made the trip north on I-35 on Monday night, to take on the Clear Lake Lions at Clear Lake High School. The Lions entered with a 1-8 record, while the Lynx entered at 7-2 and fresh off their North Central Conference Tournament Title on Saturday.
Joslin Gourley kicked off the afternoon with an 8-3 decision, dominating yet again in position one. Mackenzie Burney then had to scrap and claw in position two, going into extra sets and picking up a 9-7 win. From there, the Lynx dominated the singles as Kayley Wibholm won an 8-2 decision, Trinity Griffith won an 8-0 decision, Makaylee Draeger won an 8-1 decision, and Jordyn Sullivan won an 8-2 decision. The Lynx were up 6-0 going into the doubles.
In the doubles portion, it was more of the same from Webster City as Joslin Gourley and Kayley Wibholm took the position one match with an 8-1 decision. Mackenzie Burney and Makaylee Draeger followed up with their own 8-1 decision, before a third and final 8-1 decision from Trinity Griffith and Jordyn Sullivan clinched a 9-0 victory for the Lynx, as well as the first North Central Conference regular season championship in school history.
The Lynx now turn their attention to postseason play, when they face off with the Ballard Bombers in the Class 1A, Region 1 Play-In Round at Boone High School on Saturday at 9 AM.
