The Webster City Lynx baseball team will kick off its season a week from Tuesday, when they host former North Central Conference rival Eagle Grove at Webster City High School. The Lynx are entering the 2022 season after a 2021 season that saw them win their 3rd conference title in the last 5 years, a 26-2 record, and a substate final appearance against Waverly-Shell Rock.
Sixth-year head coach Adison Kehoe’s biggest task in 2022, will be to rebuild a starting rotation that was in the top 10 in the state, all classes, in earned run average at 1.75. Aces Tyler Olson and Chase Rattenborg departed from graduation, but Webster City returns junior Zach Dyvig, who held a 0.83 ERA and a WHIP of 1.03 in 2021, as he looks to lead a green Webster City rotation in 2022.
On the positive, Webster City returns a large chunk of their offensive production from 2021, as CJ Hisler returns for his junior season after leading the Lynx in batting average, hits, RBI, and was second on the team in On-Base Percentage a season ago. Fellow junior Ty McKinney returns after leading the Lynx in stolen bases a season ago with 19, and junior Connor Hansen led the team in home runs a year ago with 3. Younger players such as Keegan Hisler, Josh Griep and Briar Klaver are expected to make bigger impacts for the Lynx as well.
Webster City’s season-opener is Tuesday, May 17th at home, against Eagle Grove.
