It was a triumphant night at Roland-Story High School on Thursday night, as the Norsemen hosted the the annual Heart of Iowa Conference track meet. Roland-Story welcomed fellow conference peers in South Hamilton, West Marshall, Perry, Saydel, Nevada, Greene County and PCM.
The night began with field events, and on the boys side, Will Bunn was the lone boys field event champion for the Norse, winning the long jump with a season-best mark of 21′ 8″. For the girls, Macy Friest took home a conference title in the shot put, throwing 37′ 1.5″, as Adalyn Sporleder won the long jump with a mark of 15′ 11.5″. Patrick Gonzales would finish 2nd in the boys shot put with a throw of 42′ 10″, as Madison Giese would take home a 2nd place finish in the girls discus with a throw of 121′ 1″. Jake Jennings would place 8th in the boys discus, Parker Curtis placed 4th in the boys high jump, Nate Johnson placed 3rd in the boys long jump, Laurel Osborn placed 5th in the girls long jump and Kennedy Petersen tied for 6th in the girls high jump.
In individual events, the Roland-Story girls dominated in the distance events, as Lauryn Kilstofte won the girls 800 meter run in a time of 2:35.43, while Claire Truesdell would double up with wins in the 1500 meter run and the 3000 meter run in times of 5:34.66 and 12:05.34. The Norsemen also picked up a win in the 400 meter dash from Kamryn Lande in a time of 1:01.66, Lande would also place 2nd in the 200 meter dash in 26.72. For the boys, Nathan Limas took home wins in the 1600 meter run and 3200 meter run in times of 5:00.92 and 10:31.86. Eli Thorson would take home a pair of silver medals in the 100 and 200, running times of 11.42 and 22.81, each behind Nevada’s Caeden DaSilva. Nate Johnson also placed 3rd in the 100 in a time of 11.56. Kale Lande would place 2nd in the 400 meter dash in a time of 50.93, a new season-best for the senior, as Brayden Kilstofte placed 5th in the 800 meter run in 2:13.13.
Moving to the relays, Roland-Story’s boys dominated the traditional relays, winning the 4×100, 4×200, 4×400 and 4×800. The 4×100 would run a time of 43.69, good for 2nd in Class 2A, and broke a 20+ year old conference record held by Madrid. The Norsemen would win the 4×200 in a time of 1:31.00, the 4×400 in 3:36.73, and the 4×800 in 8:36.95. Roland-Story’s boys would also add a Sprint Medley title as well, in a time of 1:37.05. Roland-Story’s girls would also win the sprint medley in a time of 1:51.93, while also winning the 4×400 in a time of 4:14.81. The Norse also finished 3rd in the 4×100 and 4×200, 5th in the 4×800 and won the distance medley in a time of 4:30.68.
Roland-Story’s boys would win the conference title with 166 points, while the Roland-Story girls would win their conference title with 147 points, giving the Norse a sweep on their home track.
