The Webster City Lynx girls tennis team made the trip south on Highway 17 on Tuesday, to take on the Boone Toreadors in a dual at McHose Park in Boone. The Toreadors entered with a 4-3 record, while the Lynx entered at 6-1.
The dual started with singles, as the Toreadors jumped out to a 2 matches to none lead, with Morgan Kathman taking down Joslin Gourley in 2 sets, and Sophie Dierking downing Mackenzie Burney in 3 sets. The Lynx would get on the board with a 2-set win by Kayley Wibholm, before the Toreadors got a win back with Gracie Gustafson in 2 sets over Trinity Griffith. Makaylee Draeger provided the 2nd of the Lynx’s 2 singles wins, with a 3-set victory over Ella Paterson, before Jordyn Sullivan fell in 2 sets to Emylyn Hockemeier.
In the doubles, Joslin Gourley and Kayley Wibholm would take down the Toreadors top duo with a 2-set win over Sophie Dierking and Bria Schwind. However, the Toreadors would bounce back with a 3-set win from Morgan Kathman and Gracie Gustafson over Mackenzie Burney and Makaylee Draeger. Webster City’s Jordyn Sullivan and Trinity Griffith would pick up a 3-set win in position 3, but the Toreadors would take the final two doubles to pick up a 7-4 victory.
The Lynx girls will return to action on Thursday, when they travel to Nevada to take on the Nevada Cubs at 4:15 PM.
