KQWC Radio confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that Webster City volleyball coach and former softball coach Jess Howard is expected to be named Webster City’s new athletic/activities director, beginning immediately.
Howard will replace outgoing AD Joe Shanks, who stepped down from the role at the end of April. Shanks was named AD following the 2018-19 school year, after serving as the interim AD following Bob Howard’s retirement as AD in November 2018.
Howard is a 2001 graduate of Webster City High School and was a member of the 2001 softball team that won the 2001 Class 2A State Championship under head coach Dave Hilton. Howard took over the reigns of the softball program in 2009, holding a 244-166 record and winning a pair of conference titles before stepping down following the 2021 season. She also has served as the Lynx head volleyball coach since 2007, and has amassed a 260-233 record in that time frame.
Howard is expected to be officially approved at Monday’s Webster City School Board meeting.
