Area teams compete in George Abell Relays in Jewell

The South Hamilton, Roland-Story and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls track and field teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as South Hamilton hosted the annual George Abell Hawkette Relays at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. The area schools were also joined by Northwood-Kensett, Des Moines Christian and Mason City Newman.

The field events were a sweep for area teams, as the Hawks Mackenzy Grady won the discus with a throw of 129′ 8″, breaking her own school record, Grady would also place 2nd in the shot put with a PR throw of 35′ 9″. Roland-Story’s Macy Friest won the shot put with a throw of 37′ 9″, while the Norsemen’s Adalyn Sporleder won the long jump with a mark of 16′ 3.75″, while Madison Giese finished 2nd in the discus with a throw of 115′ 6″. CGD’s Kennedy Trca placed 2nd in the long jump with a jump of 15′ 4.25″, while Roland-Story’s Laurel Osborn placed 3rd with a jump and South Hamilton’s Taylor Remsburg placed 5th. Mikayla Beisel won the girls high jump for CGD, clearing 5′ 2″, while South Hamilton’s Grace Neuberger placed 2nd, clearing 4′ 10″.

In the individual events, it was a sweep in the sprints for South Hamilton, as Kelbe Krumm won the 100 meter dash and 200 meter dash in times of 13.70 and 27.57, while Ashlyn Erickson won the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:03.03. Roland-Story would then take the 800 and 1500 meter runs with Lauryn Kilstofte winning the 800 in a time of 2:31.19 and Clair Truesdell winning the 1500 in a time of 5:28.80. CGD’s Matea Conlon placed 2nd in the 100 in a time of 13.79, while Tanna Thompson placed 3rd for South Hamilton and CGD’s Jorja Fulk placed 4th. Makena Galetich placed 2nd for the Hawks in the 200, while R-S’s Kennedy Petersen and CGD’s Jorja Fulk placed 3rd and 4th. South Hamilton’s Anna Lammers placed 2nd in the 800 with a mark of 2:40.01, while CGD’s Harley Charlson placed 3rd in 2:41.08. The Hawks Madison Beaune placed 3rd in the 1500 in a time of 5:42.89. In the 100 meter hurdles, CGD’s Morgan Beisel placed 2nd in 16.54, while Kennedy Trca placed 4th in 17.81. CGD’s Clarissa Hasty placed 3rd in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 1:17.88.

In the relays, South Hamilton and Roland-Story shared the sprint relays, as the Norsemen won the 4×100 and 4×400 in times of 52.64 and 4:23.42, while South Hamilton won the 4×200 in a time of 1:50.21. The Hawks placed 2nd in the 4×100 in 52.79 and 3rd in the 4×400 in 4:31.21, while the Norsemen placed 2nd in the 4×200 in 1:51.58. CGD would place 3rd in the 4×100 in 53.67 and 4th in the 4×200 in 1:55.58. South Hamilton would win the 4×800 in a time of 10:35.42, while Roland-Story would place 2nd in the shuttle hurdle relay in a mark of 1:18.76. The Norsemen would win the sprint medley in a time of 1:52.59, with South Hamilton placing 2nd in 1:56.29, but the Hawks would win the distance medley in a time of 4:54.55.

South Hamilton were the meet champions, scoring 146 points, while Roland-Story placed 2nd with 136 points. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows placed 5th with 72 points.
