The Webster City soccer teams returned to the field on Tuesday night, to face of with the Cardinals of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura. The Webster City boys faced off with GHV at Webster City High School, while the Webster City girls traveled up north to play at GHV High School in Garner.
The boys game was tightly contested the whole way through, with Webster City striking first with an Evy Hernandez free kick in the 15th minute. Hernandez followed that up with another goal in the 32nd minute, before GHV got a goal back to make the score 2-1 at halftime. The Cardinals would tie it up with 4:11 to go in the match, sending it into overtime, where GHV scored off a throw in goal in the 86th minute to stun the Lynx, 3-2.
Up in Garner, The Lynx girls trailed at halftime by a score of 2-1, before tying the score 2-2. GHV would have the last laugh, scoring the go-ahead goal and winning the match by a score of 3-2. Shelby Queen and Kendyl Daniels scored goals for the Lynx in the loss.
Webster City’s girls return to action on Tuesday against Waterloo Columbus, while the boys return to action on Thursday against Humboldt.
