The Webster City Lynx and the Eagle Grove Eagles boys track teams made the trip west on Friday night to compete in the annual Poky Relays at Pocahontas Area High School. The Lynx competed in Class A with Humboldt, the host Indians, Storm Lake and Algona, while the Eagles competed in Class B with Bishop Garrigan, Emmetsburg, Sioux Central, South Central Calhoun and North Union.
JJ Moore would sweep the throwing events to start the evening for Webster City, winning the Shot Put with a throw of 53′ 2″, and winning the discus with a throw of 144′ 7″. Keegan Hisler would finish 3rd in the high jump, clearing 5′ 6″, while Christopher Martinez placed 6th in the long jump with a mark of 15′ 10.25″.
In the individual events, the lone champion for Webster City was senior Jose Ramirez, winning the 800 meter run in a time of 2:18.32, while Tristen Maxwell finished 3rd in a time of 2:21.03. Lincoln Tielke would also place 3rd in the 400 meter hurdles in 1:07.18, while the Lynx went 3-4 in the 110 high hurdles with Gabe Rollins in 3rd and Aiden Feltz in 4th. Riley LaSourd would finish 2nd in the 400 meter dash in a time of 56.02, while Skyler Scott finished 4th in the 100 meter dash.
The Lynx would dominate in the sprint relays, winning the 4×100, 4×200 and 4×400 in times of 46.05, 1:37.32 and 3:54.69, respectively. Webster City would placed 2nd in the 4×800 in a time of 9:34.74, while also finishing 3rd in the shuttle hurdle relay and 2nd in the distance medley.
In Class B, Eagle Grove picked up a 3rd place finish from Peyton Larsen in the shot put with a throw of 39′ 7″, and 4-5 finish in the discus, with Gabriel Binkerd placing 4th with a mark of 114′ 5″ and Jake Jeske placing 5th with a mark of 107′ 11″. Cayden Schultz placed 4th in the high jump, clearing 5′ 4″, and Patrick Heaton placed 5th in the long jump with a mark of 16′ 10″.
In individual events, Eagle Grove picked up a pair of 3rd place finishes, with Blake Morgan placing 3rd in the 200 meter dash in a time of 24.01, and Justin Agtun-Gomez placing 3rd in the 400 meter hurdles in a mark of 1:06.49, Agutn-Gomez also placed 4th in the 110 high hurdles. Tate Richardson placed 4th in the 400 meter dash in a time of 55.71, while Roberto Calles placed 5th in the 100 meter dash. Zabdi Castro would also place 6th in the 800 meter run.
In the relays, Eagle Grove would win the 4×200 and the sprint medley in times of 1:37.21 and 1:42.51, respectively. The Eagles placed 2nd in the 4×400 in a time of 3:45.48, and 3rd in the distance medley in a time of 4:19.90. Eagle Grove also placed 3rd in the 4×800, while placing 5th in the 4×100 and the shuttle hurdle relay.
Webster City would finish runner-up to Humboldt in Class A with 133 points, while Eagle Grove would place 5th in Class B with 87 points.
