The Webster City, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows and Eagle Grove boys track teams all saddled up and headed west to the Humboldt Varsity Track Meet on Thursday night at Humboldt High School. The KQ-area schools were joined by the host Wildcats, Pocahontas Area, Clear Lake, Southeast Valley, Manson-Northwest Webster and Algona.
In the field events, Webster City’s JJ Moore picked up a clean sweep of throwing events, winning the shot put with a throw of 53′ 6″, and winning the discus with a throw of 153′ 11″. Jaxon Cherry placed 6th in the shot put with a throw of 43′ 7″ and 5th in the discus with a throw of 143′ 5″. CGD’s Mason Allen placed 3rd in the discus with a throw of 147′ 5″, while Nevan Foss placed 5th in the high jump clearing 5′ 6″, while Brandon Zigrang placed 7th in the long jump with a mark of 18′ 2.5″. Eagle Grove’s Cayden Schultz finished 3rd in the high jump with a mark of 5′ 8″.
Only one area athlete took home an individual title on the track, and that was Eagle Grove’s Blake Morgan in the 200 meter dash in a time of 23.33. CGD’s Rigo Bobadilla picked up a runner-up finish in the 400 meter dash in a time of 54.82, while also placing 7th in the 100 meter dash in a time of 12.34. Aidan Harrington and Jacob Ingebritson of CGD placed 5th and 6th in the 200 meter dash, while Connor State placed 4th in the 110 high hurdles. Janosch Roesner and Brandon Zigrang placed 6th and 8th in the 400 hurdles, while Christopher Greenfield placed 8th in the 1600 meter run. Eagle Grove’s Tate Richardson placed 3rd in the 400 meter dash in a time of 55.40, and Roberto Calles placed 8th in the 100 meter dash.
In the relays, Webster City placed 2nd in the 4×100 in a time of 44.57, while CGD placed 6th in 45.82 and Eagle Grove placed 8th in 48.83. In the 4×200, Eagle Grove placed 2nd in 1:35.00, while Webster City placed 3rd in 1:35.21 and CGD placed 4th in 1:37.40. The 4×400 saw Eagle Grove also place 2nd in 3:38.28, while CGD placed 4th in 3:49.03. The Eagles and Cowboys would place 7th and 8th in the 4×800, while Eagle Grove would finish runner-up in the sprint medley, where as CGD placed 4th. Eagle Grove would place 4th in the distance medley and CGD placed 3rd in the shuttle hurdle relay.
Humboldt would win the meet with 152 points, while CGD placed 6th with 64 points, Eagle Grove placed 7th with 56 points and Webster City placed 8th with 41 points.
