Roland-Story boys win Southeast Valley Invitational, Webster City finishes 3rd

The Roland-Story Norsemen and Webster City Lynx boys track and field teams made the trip west on Monday, to compete in the Southeast Valley Invitational in Gowrie. Teams competing in Class A with the Lynx and Norsemen included Gilbert, Carroll Kuemper, Ogden, Manson-Northwest Webster, Pocahontas Area and the host Jaguars.

Field events kicked off the afternoon, with Webster City’s JJ Moore winning the shot put, with a best throw of 55′ 11.75″, Jaxon Cherry finished 5th with a throw of 42′ 8.75″. Moore and Cherry would go on to finish 3rd and 4th in the discus. In the long jump, Roland-Story’s Will Bunn set a new meet record, as well as a season-best with a jump of 21′ 7″.

In the sprints, Roland-Story’s Eli Thorson took home 2nd in the 100 meter dash in a time of 11.57, while Webster City’s Jaxon Cherry and CJ Hisler finished 3rd and 4th. Thorson would win the 200, in a time of 22.99, good for 4th in Class 2A. The 400 meter dash saw the Norsemen’s Kale Lande give Carroll Kuemper’s Michael Pottebaum a good race, but Pottebaum took home first in a time of 51.14, while Lande finished in 51.52.

Distance races saw Roland-Story’s Nathan Limas take home a 3rd place finish in the 800, in a time of 2:15.83, Limas would also place 3rd in the 3200 in a time of 10:50.56. In the 1600, Webster City senior Jose Ramirez took home 3rd place in a time of 4:50.51. 110 high hurdles saw Roland-Story’s Luke Patton take 3rd in a time of 17.26, while Quin Ante placed 2nd in the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:02.52.

In the relays, Roland-Story took home first in the 4×200, in a time of 1:33, while finishing 2nd in the 4×400 and the 4×800. The 4×400 finished in a season-best time of 3:34.89, while the 4×800 finished in a time of 9:12.91. Webster City saw a 2nd place finish in the 4×200 in a time of 1:36.14, and a 3rd place finish in the 4×400 in a time of 3:49.51.

Roland-Story would take home the win with 122 points on the night, while Webster City placed 3rd with 77 points. Both teams are scheduled to be in action on Thursday night at Saydel.
