Roland-Story hosted a rare Saturday track meet this past weekend, as the Roland-Story Co-Ed kicked off at 1 PM on Saturday afternoon. The meet was moved to Saturday due to teams’ inability to run track meets due to weather throughout last week. Teams running included South Hamilton, Gilbert, North Polk, South Hardin, Madrid boys, Des Moines Christian boys, Iowa Falls-Alden boys, PCM boys, Hampton-Dumont-CAL boys and the ADM girls.
South Hamilton swept the boys throwing events, as Austin Busch won the discus with a throw of 157′ 1″, and won the shot put with a throw of 58′ 2″. Carter Balvanz finished 8th in the shot put with a throw of 40′ 1″ and 3rd in the discus with a throw of 113′. For the girls, South Hamilton’s Mackenzy Grady won the discus with a throw of 119′ 2.5″, and finished 3rd in the shot put with a throw of 33′ 5.5″.
Roland-Story started the day with senior Will Bunn winning the boys long jump with a mark of 20′ 3.5″, while Kenzie Fick finished 3rd in the girls long jump with a mark of 14′ 2.5″ The Roland-Story boys took their dominant performance to the track, winning the 4×800 in a time of 8:48.39, the Norsemen girls then followed up with a win in the shuttle hurdle in a time of 1:22.33. South Hamilton’s Kate Barkema finished 2nd in the 100 meter dash in a time of 13.63.
Two KQ-area athletes took home wins in the 400, as South Hamilton’s Ashlyn Erickson won the girls race in a time of 1:03.15, while Roland-Story’s Kale Lande won the boys 400 in a time of 52.65. The Roland-Story boys 4×200 then took to the track, and lit up the competition with a 1:32.13 time, good for 6th best in Iowa all-classes. South Hamilton would then get another top 3 finish in the 110 high hurdles, with Tanner Blue placing 3nd in a time of 15.44.
Moving to the 800 meter run, Roland-Story’s Ben Greenfield took home 3rd in a time of 2:16.15, while the Norsemen’s Lauryn Kilstofte finished 2nd in the girls race in a time of 2:33.16. The Norsemen boys then picked up a win in the 200 meter dash, as Jonovan Wilkinson ran a season-best 23.87. The Norsemen girls would get solid performances from Jaclyn Gessner and Grace Downling, finishing 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
In the 4×100, South Hamilton’s girls finished 3rd in a time of 52.28 seconds, while the Roland-Story won the boys 4×100 in a time of 43.90 seconds. The Norsemen girls would then take 2nd in the 4×400 at 4:35.86, while the boys won the 4×400 in a time of 3:36.79. Final team scores had the Norsemen girls finish 2nd with 103 points, and South Hamilton’s girls place 5th with 74 points. The boys standings saw Roland-Story as co-meet champs with North Polk, while South Hamilton finished 8th with 32 points.
