Webster City girls tennis dominates North Polk in season opener

The Webster City girls tennis team opened their season on Monday night, as they faced off with the Comets of North Polk at North Polk High School in Alleman. Webster City defeated North Polk 5 matched to 4 matches in last year’s meeting.

The Lynx swept all the singles matches to kick off the afternoon, as Joslin Gourley and Kayley Wibholm both took home 10-0 decisions. Trinity Griffin scored a 10-3 decision, Jordyn Sullivan won a 10-4 decision, while Mackenzie Burney and Makaylee Draeger both took home 10-7 wins.

In doubles, the team of Joslin Gourley and Kayley Wibholm took a dominating 10-1 win, while Mackenzie Burney and Makaylee Draeger scored a 10-3 win. The duo of Jordyn Sullivan and Trinity Griffin picked up an extra sets win of 11-9, while Cyra Christiensen and Ali Martinez scored a 10-7 win. The Lynx only loss of the day was in the final double, where Ellie Branca and Perla Torres fell to Emma Gyden and Maddi Bequeaith of North Polk.

The Lynx return to action on Friday, when they travel to Nevada to take on the Nevada Cubs, beginning at 4:15 PM.
