KQ Radio 2022 All-Area Girls Basketball Teams

Much like the boys season, the girls basketball season in the KQ area was a successful one as well, with the Norsemen of Roland-Story leading the charge with their 3rd state tournament appearance in 4 years. The collection of talent in the area was high-level, and we have three squads to honor those who competed at the level.

First Team

G: Makena Galetich (South Hamilton), Sophomore

Stats: 15 PPG/5.3 RPG/3.3 APG/4 SPG/42.6% FG/27.9% 3PT/79.6% FT

Following a promising freshman campaign, Galetich blossomed into one of the brightest stars in the Heart of Iowa Conference in 2021-22. The sophomore point guard was able to constantly get looks at the rim, while also distributing the basketball at a high-level, leading South Hamilton to their first winning record in over a decade.

G: Hallee Feaker (South Hamilton), Junior

Stats: 12.8 PPG/5.4 RPG/1.8 APG/3.1 SPG/37.6% FG/33.1% 3PT/49.2% FT

Feaker returned from a season-ending injury that shortened her sophomore campaign and became one of the fiercest defensive players in the conference, as her high-energy style led to her assignment on opponents best guards. Feaker’s offensive output saw her shoot a team-high 33.1% from three, giving South Hamilton multiple outside threats.

G: Lexie Lane (Clarion-Goldfield-Dows), Junior

Stats: 14.5 PPG/4.4 RPG/1.8 APG/3.4 SPG/37.2% FG/31.9% 3PT/61.4% FT

Lane solidified herself as one of the top players in the North Central Conference with her play on the floor for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, despite the team’s sub-.500 record. Lane finished as the 5th leading scorer in the conference at 14.5 PPG, and was tied at the top with St. Edmond’s Gracie Harvey in steals at 3.4 per contest.

F: Reagan Barkema (Roland-Story), Senior

Stats: 15.7 PPG/7.3 RPG/2.2 APG/1.8 SPG/48.7% FG/34.4% 3PT/63.5% FT

The future-Bradley Brave did not disappoint in her senior campaign, leading the charge in the Norsemen’s 3rd state tournament appearance in four years. Barkema finished in the top 5 of 11 statistical categories in the Heart of Iowa Conference, and was the 3rd-leading scorer in the conference at 15.7 PPG.

F: Caleigh Hewitt (South Hamilton), Senior

Stats: 7.7 PPG/7 RPG/0.7 APG/42.7% FG/26.3% 3PT/50% FT

Hewitt became a reliable option on the low-block on both ends of the floor for South Hamilton. The senior led the Hawks in rebounding averaging right at 7 RPG, and showed the ability to score from beyond the paint, shooting 26.3% from three in her final season on the hardwood.

Second Team

G: Madi Bauer (Roland-Story), Junior

Stats: 7.6 PPG/2.3 RPG/2 APG/1.6 SPG/40.3% FG/37.6% 3PT/57.9% FT

Playing as a secondary scorer to Reagan Barkema, Madi Bauer emerged as one of the top perimeter scorers in the Heart of Iowa Conference in 2021-22, shooting over 37.5% from three-point range. Her 7.6 PPG was good for third on a team with a balanced scoring attack to complement Barkema.

G: Reece Johnson (Roland-Story), Junior

Stats: 8.1 PPG/3.2 RPG/4.4 APG/2.4 SPG/36% FG/26.7% 3PT/64.7% FT

Johnson ran the point guard spot at a very high level for the Norsemen’s state tournament squad, as not only the top assister on the team, but one of the best facilitators in the conference, averaging nearly 4.5 APG. Johnson also showed capability as a scorer at all three levels.

G: Sawyer Morrical (Clarion-Goldfield-Dows), Sophomore

Stats: 7.1 PPG/3 RPG/2 APG/2.7 SPG/32.7% FG/36.4% 3PT/63.3% FT

Sawyer Morrical stepped into the varsity point guard role as a sophomore, and with some learning on the fly, became a steady hand for the Cowgirls by season’s end. Morrical played off of Lexie Lane’s role as a knockdown 3-point shooter, and became a pest on the defensive end for opponents.

F: Livia Kasch (Webster City), Junior

Stats: 7.1 PPG/5.5 RPG/1.1 APG/2 SPG/29.3% FG/27.3% 3PT/60% FT

Livia Kasch stepped up as part of a 1-2 scoring punch for Webster City, along with guard Kelly Stoakes. Kasch was one of the Lynx’s top perimeter shooters, while also showing the ability to be a force on the interior, as she tied for the team lead in rebounding with Reese Casey.

F: Madison Geise (Roland-Story), Senior

Stats: 6.7 PPG/3.6 RPG/45.3% FG/42.4% 3PT/67.6% FT

Rotating in and out of the starting lineup based on matchups, Madison Geise still had a major impact on the offensive end for the Norsemen as a classic stretch forward. Geise’s 42.4% three-point percentage was near the tops of the conference, and was a reliable rebounder as well.

Third Team

G: Kelly Stoakes (Webster City), Senior

Stats: 7.2 PPG/4.6 RPG/1 APG/2.1 SPG/25.5% FG/11.8% 3PT/62.3% FT
