A number of KQ-area athletes were honored by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association on Tuesday, when they released their All-Substate and All-Region teams for boys and girls basketball. The announcement in its in entirety can be found HERE.
Beginning with the boys in Class 2A, Substate 3, Roland-Story saw 2 athletes honored in junior guard Isaiah Naylor and sophomore guard Jonovan Wilkinson. Roland-Story coach Darrin Berggren was also named Substate 3 Coach of the Year. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows also saw one honoree in Substate 3 in senior forward Connor State.
In Class 3A, Substate 2, the lone selection involving KQ-area athletes was Webster City junior guard Jamie Grossoehme, who was the team’s leading scorer and most efficient shooter in 2021-22.
On the girls side, beginning in Class 2A, Region 3, the lone South Hamilton selection was that of sophomore guard Makena Galetich, who led the Hawks in points and assists in a breakout season. In Class 3A, Region 5, Roland-Story saw 2 selections in senior forward Reagan Barkema and senior guard Reece Johnson. Roland-Story coach Maddie Gelber was named Region 5 Coach of the Year in her first season at the helm in Story City.
