Hamilton County sees a slight increase in unemployment for January.

The Iowa Workforce Development office announced today that Hamilton County saw a 4.0 percent unemployment rate for January. The unemployment rate for December,2021 for Hamilton County was at 3.5 percent with the January,2021 rate at 5.1 percent. This translates into 6,650 people employed in jobs in the county with 280 people unemployed. The unemployment rates for surrounding counties for January included Boone County at 3.6,Franklin County at 4.3 percent, Hardin County at 4.8 percent, Story at 2.7 percent, Webster County at 4.6 percent and Wright County at 4.2 percent. Iowa’s unemployment rate for January was at 3.7 percent, up from the 3.5. percent rate in December. The February unemployment statistics for Iowa will be released later this month.
