Monday marks the first track meet of the 2022 Iowa High School track calendar as UNI hosts the annual Dickinson Relays at the UNI Dome in Cedar Falls. Two KQ-area schools will send athletes to compete in South Hamilton and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows.
South Hamilton’s running events will be highlighted by defending Heart of Iowa Conference champ Kate Barkema competing in the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Barkema was a conference champion in the 100-meter dash as a sophomore. Also competing will be defending 400-meter dash conference champion Ashlyn Erickson, who ran a season-best time of 1:01.80 in 2021. Tanna Thompson will run in the 60-meter dash, while Zoey Duns and Makena Galetich will run in the 200-meter dash and Anna Lammers will join Erickson in the 400. Field events include Grace Neuberger competing in the high jump, and Mackenzy Grady and Kendra Hoversten competing in the shotput. South Hamilton will also run in the 4×200 relay.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows running events are highlighted by defending North Central Conference 100-meter dash champion Matea Conlon. Colon will be competing in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash. Her season-best in the 100 in 2021 was 12.34 seconds and is looking to build on that in her junior campaign. Conlon is joined in the 60 by Jorja Fulk and Kennedy Jackson, and in the 200 by Fulk and Ezra Heifner. Kennedy Trca will look to build off a top-5 conference finish in the 100-meter hurdles this season, as she competes in the 60-meter hurdles with Clarrisa Hasty and Mikayla Beisel. Trca will also compete in the 400 with Kennedy Jackson and Harley Charlson. Field events are highlighted by Mikayla Beisel in the high jump, and Ellie Mewes and Ella Tew in the shotput. The Cowgirls will also run a 4×200 relays and a 4×400 relay.
