Roland-Story girls open state tournament with West Lyon on Monday night

The Roland-Story Norsemen girls basketball team will open their 2022 State Tournament run on Monday night, when they take on the West Lyon Wildcats in Class 3A first round action at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. The Norsemen enter as the 7-seed at 19-5, while West Lyon enters as the 2-seed at 23-1, with their lone loss coming to Harrisburg (SD) High School.

West Lyon is led by senior Brooklyn Meyer, who enters averaging 17 PPG and nearly 9.5 RPG, as well as over 3.5 APG. Junior Randi Childress is second on the team in scoring, averaging 7.2 PPG, but has been a marksman from three, shooting near 40% throughout most of the season. The Wildcats main job will be to slow down Norsemen star Reagan Barkema, but the Norsemen will have fellow upperclassmen in Reece Johnson and Madi Bauer ready to fire on open shots from deep.

Tipoff is slated for 8:30 PM at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
