The Webster City Lynx boys basketball team opened postseason play on Monday night, as they traveled to Waverly to face off with the Go-Hawks of Waverly-Shell Rock in the first round of Class 3A, Substate 2 action. The Go-Hawks entered at 13-8 and finished second in the NEIC behind Decorah.
Waverly-Shell Rock got out to a hot start out of the gate, leading Webster City 20-12 after the first quarter, including shooting 4-for-5 from three-point land. The three-ball helped the Go-Hawks extend that lead to 36-20 at halftime. In the second half, W-SR would lead by as much as 20, but Webster City would continue to fight back behind the play of Jamin Stuhr. Stuhr finished with 17 in his final career game, as the Lynx did not have enough firepower to overcome the Go-Hawks in a 49-33 loss.
Waverly-Shell Rock advances to face Clear Lake in the Class 3A, Substate 2 semifinals on Thursday night. Webster City’s season ends with a 12-10 record.
