Webster City boys fend off 4th quarter Algona rally

The Webster City Lynx boys basketball team returned to the hardwood for their North Central Conference finale on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Algona Bulldogs. Algona entered Tuesday night’s finale with a record of 8-12 on the season.

A win for the Lynx would clinch a 3rd-place tie with Clear Lake in the final conference standings, but Algona came out strong, holding a 14-7 lead after the first quarter. Webster City would answer with a big second quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 20-10 to take a 27-24 halftime lead. The 3rd quarter proved much of the same, with the Lynx defense holding down the high-powered Bulldogs, but the 4th quarter turned into a shootout. Algona outscored the Lynx by a 27-22 margin in the final frame, but the play of senior Jamin Stuhr down the stretch sealed a 64-59 win. Stuhr led all scorers with 22 points on the night.

The Lynx wrap up the regular season on Thursday night, when they face the Boone Toreadors at Boone High School.
