The South Hamilton boys basketball team hit the road for the opening round of the Class 2A, District 4 playoff on Monday night, as they traveled to Eldora to face off with the Wolverines of Dike-New Hartford. Dike-New Hartford entered with an 8-13 record as members of the North Iowa Cedar League.
The game started off fast and furious for the Wolverines, as they wasted no time ganging up on the Hawks with their full court press, and took a 22-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. South Hamilton would respond, cutting it to as little as 9 in the 2nd quarter, before the Wolverines regained command for a 38-24 halftime lead. The 2nd half would then be all Dike-New Hartford, as the Wolverines outscored the Hawks 35-23 in the 2nd half in a 73-47 win. Dike-New Hartford was led in scoring by Benton Bixby and Brewer Eiklenborg with 13 points each, Landon Skartvedt led South Hamilton with 17.
South Hamilton’s season comes to an end with a final record of 3-19, Dike-New Hartford advances to face long-time rival Aplington-Parkersburg on Thursday night.
