South Hamilton and Eagle Grove compete in district wrestling at Emmetsburg

The South Hamilton and Eagle Grove wrestling squads made the long trek north and west on Saturday, to compete in the Class 1A, District 3 tournament at Emmetsburg High School. The Hawks and Eagles were joined by the host E-Hawks, West Sioux, West Hancock, Akron-Westfield, GTRA, North Union, Sibley-Ocheyedan, Sioux Central, Belmond-Klemme, Western Christian and West Bend-Mallard.

Eagle Grove managed to send 3 wrestlers down to this weekend’s State Tournament. Dustin Dawson was the Eagles lone district champion, picking up a title match fall over West Sioux’s Drayven Kraft to win the 132 pound district title. Mack Morgan placed 2nd, after falling to Akron-Westfield’s Cael Morrow in a 6-0 decision, Morgan did not have a wrestleback match. Isaac Olson was the 3rd Eagle qualfier, placing 2nd at 220 pounds, winning his wrestleback over GTRA’s Tanner Murray in a 4-3 decision. Olson fell to West Hancock’s Matthew Francis in the title match.

South Hamilton managed to send just one wrestler in senior 182-pounder Brent Greenfield. Greenfield fell to West Sioux’s Carson Lynott in a fall that was 36 seconds into the title match. Greenfield would come back and pick up 7-5 decision over Emmetsburg’s Ben Saxton to clinch a berth in the State Tournament. Keyton Remsburg placed 4th at 126 pounds as the only other district qualifier for South Hamilton.

The 4 wrestlers will travel to Des Moines this weekend to compete in the state tournament at Wells Fargo Arena. 95.7 KQWC will provide live, move-by-move coverage of matches involving area athletes.
