The Webster City Lynx basketball team returns to the home hardwood on Friday night for a senior night showdown, with the girls taking on the Perry Jayettes, and the boys taking on the Humboldt Wildcats. The Jayettes enter with an 8-12 record as members of the Heart of Iowa Conference, while Humboldt enters with a 17-1 record and ranked #2 in Class 3A.
The girls game gets underway first, as the Lynx will be tasked with slowing down Perry’s star junior in Lydia Olejniczak. Olejniczak enters averaging nearly 20 PPG, as well as over 7 rebounds and nearly 2 assists per contests, all of which are team highs. Senior Jayna Kenney enters averaging just 10 PPG, as well as grabbing over 6 rebounds and dishing 1.5 assists per contest. Webster City will look to use their press to cause problems for the Jayettes.
The boys game follows with Webster City hosting their conference finale against the high-powered Wildcats, with nothing but revenge on their minds following a 1-point loss to the Wildcats in Humboldt. With a win, Humboldt will clinch their first outright North Central Conference title since 2007. The Wildcats are led by junior Will Orness, who averages over 14.5 PPG and is one of the most lethal 3-point shooters in Iowa. Caden Matson also averages nearly 13 PPG, while leading the team in rebounds and assists.
Tipoff is slated for 6:15 PM at Webster City High School.
