The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball team made the trip south for their regular season finale on Thursday night, to face off with the Jaguars of Southeast Valley. Southeast Valley entered Thursday night with a 10-10 record on the season.
The Jaguars came ready to fight, as they led 17-16 after the first quarter. Southeast Valley then extended its lead to 31-28 at halftime, as the Jaguars game plan centered heavily around their star center in Iowa football-commit Aaron Graves. The Jaguars appeared to be close to pulling away in the 2nd half, leading by as much as 10, but the Cowboys came roaring back thanks to tough defense and opportunistic offense. Jacob Moore’s layup gave CGD a 1-point lead with 8 seconds to go, but Southeast Valley senior guard Kolson Kruse layup with a foul, gave the Jaguars a two-point lead and a 53-51 win.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will return to action next Thursday, when they will face the winner of Central Springs and Forest City for their Class 2A district semifinal.
