Webster City basketball splits doubleheader with Clear Lake

The Webster City Lynx basketball teams made the trip north on I-35 on Tuesday night, to face off with the Lions of Clear Lake in North Central Conference play. The Clear Lake girls were 15-4 and ranked #10 in Class 3A, while the Clear Lake boys entered at 13-4.

The girls game was a runaway from the start, as Clear Lake opened with a 25-12 first quarter lead, and clamped down defensively in the 2nd quarter, to extend their lead to 41-14. The Lynx would only score 5 points in the second half as Clear Lake picked up a dominating 72-19 victory. Chloe Anderson led Webster City with 6 points on the night.

The boys game followed with Webster City looking to bounce back from their loss to Iowa Falls-Alden on Friday. The Lynx jumped on the Lions from the get out, leading 18-8 after the first quarter. Clear Lake would answer with a big 2nd quarter, as they cut the lead to 27-21 at halftime. However, the 2nd half would be all Lynx, holding the normally-explosive Clear Lake offense to just 14 second half points en route to a 57-35 win. Jamie Grossoehme finished with 19 points for the Lynx, while Clear Lake star Carson Toebe was held to just 11 points.

Webster City returns to action on Saturday, when the girls host Perry at 6:15 and the boys host Class 3A #2 Humboldt at 7:45.
