South Hamilton basketball splits doubleheader with PCM

The South Hamilton Hawks basketball team made the long trip south on Tuesday night, to face off with the PCM Mustangs in Heart of Iowa Conference play. The PCM girls entered 6-15, while the PCM boys entered at 11-8.

The girls game kicked off the night with South Hamilton looking to get back into the win column following a 3-game losing streak. The Hawks and Mustangs were neck-and-neck for 3 quarters, with South Hamilton leading by 7. However, a 21-9 margin in the 4th quarter saw the Hawks pull away for a 55-35 win. Makena Galetich led the Hawks 17 points, while Hallee Feaker had 10 points.

The boys game followed with South Hamilton trying to pick up a 4th conference win against PCM team that has been surging as of late. The Mustangs worked out to a 13-8 lead after 1, and a halftime leads of 25-14. The Hawks offense picked up pace in the 2nd half thanks to Teegan Trask, but it was too little, too late as PCM scored a 53-41 win. Trask finished with a career-high 24 points, while Durant Van Dyke finished with 19 for PCM.

South Hamilton’s boys return to action on Thursday, when they host Carroll Kuemper, South Hamilton’s girls return to action on Tuesday, when they host Lake Mills in their Class 2A Regional Opener.
