Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling dual season ends in Crestwood

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling team saddled up east on Tuesday night, to compete in their Class 2A Regional Dual at Cresco High School in Crestwood. The Cowboys were joined by the host Cadets and NCC foe Algona.

CGD opened up the night win Algona, beginning at 126 pounds, where Ethan Truab picked up a 9-1 major decision over Algona’s Tate Slagle. Algona would then pickup back-to-back decisions at 132 and 138. Moving to 145, CGD would reel off three wins in a row with Luke Brownell, Cale Kirstein and Garrett Seaba all picking up falls at 145, 152 and 160. Algona would get a 13-3 major decision from Brandon Harris at 170 over Mack Seaba, before Nash Lienemann and Erick Perez picked up a fall and decision at 182 and 195. Algona would then win 4 of the final 5 matches, but Daniel Chavez fall over Cody Nielson at 285, sealed the match for the Cowboys, as they picked up the 37-30 win.

Soon thereafter, the Cowboys prepared to take on the Cresco Cadets, who entered ranked #8 in the latest traditional team rankings per IA Wrestle. The dual began at 132, where Ethan Govern picked up a 4-0 decision over Caleb Seaba. Following a Cresco fall at 138, Cale Kirstein picked up CGD’s first points in a fall over Bryce Shea, to make the score 9-6. Cole Butikofer would pick up a fall at 152, before the Seaba brothers of Garrett and Mack would get falls of their own at 160 and 170, as well as Nash Lieneman at 182, to put CGD ahead 24-15. From there on out, Cresco dominated, winning the final 7 matches to advance to state with a 47-24 win.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will have wrestlers back in action on Saturday, competing in the Class 2A, District 7 Tournament at Webster City High School.
