The South Hamilton and Eagle Grove wrestling teams entered postseason action on Saturday, as they compete in the Class 1A, Sectional 5 Tournament at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. Other teams competing included West Hancock, Emmetsburg, North Union, Belmond-Klemme and Fort Dodge, St. Edmond.
South Hamilton managed to send a pair of wrestlers on to Saturday’s district tournament in Emmetsburg, as sophomore Keyton Remsburg qualified at 126, and senior Brent Greenfield qualified at 182. Greenfield was the only sectional champion for the Hawks, defeating West Hancock’s Parker Means in a fall in the semis, and winning the title match via 5-0 decision over Emmetsburg’s Ben Saxton. Remsburg lost his 126 title match to Emmetsburg’s Ryerson Boevers in a 5-2 decision, but won his 2nd-place match via forfeit from Eagle Grove’s Connor Christopher.
Eagle Grove wound up sending 5 wrestlers to Saturday’s district tournament. The Eagles boasted a pair of sectional champions in Mack Morgan at 106 pounds and Dustin Dawson at 132 pounds. Morgan spent a total of 1:09 on the mat in his two matches, one that ended in a 50-second fall, and the championship-match ended in a 19-second fall. Dawson won his two matches on the day via fall and a 13-11 decision. The Eagles saw runner-up finishes from Korey Anderson at 145, Jack Mendoza at 195 and Isaac Olson at 220.
The Eagles and Hawks will compete at the Class 1A, District 3 tournament at Emmetsburg High School on Saturday.
