The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to action on Monday night, when they made the short trek north into Hancock County to take on the Eagles of West Hancock. The West Hancock girls entered 14-4 and ranked #11 in Class 2A, while the West Hancock boys entered 7-11.
The girls game got underway first, as West Hancock wasted no time in jumping all over the Cowgirls. The Eagles led 12-2 after the first quarter, and a 29-point 2nd quarter gave the Eagles a 41-8 lead at halftime. The point totals evened up in the second half, with the Eagles only outscoring CGD 19-18, but it was too far, too late as West Hancock scored a 59-26 win. Mallory Leerar led West Hancock with 16 points.
The boys game followed with the Cowboys looking to pick up another non-conference win against a West Hancock team that had been up and down all season. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows was in command for all 32 minutes, as the Cowboys never trailed en route to a 43-31 win. Senior forward Conner State made history as he surpassed 1,000 career points in the game.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Tuesday night, when they host the Algona Bulldogs at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School.
