The Webster City girls basketball team returned to the court on Friday night, as they returned to the hardwood on Friday night, as the Lynx hosted North Central Conference foe Algona at Webster City High School. The Bulldogs entered with a 7-10 record.
Webster City looked to bounce back following their 53-24 loss to Hampton-Dumont-CAL on Tuesday, and kept things ugly in the first half, trailing 20-13 in a half dominated by defense. However, Algona’s offense found the range in the 2nd half, outscoring the Lynx 32-11 in the half on their way to a 52-24 win. Lillian Etherington led the Bulldogs with 14 points, including 3, three-pointers. Webster City’s girls record moved to 4-13 with the loss.
The Lynx boys returned to the hardwood on Saturday, as they met a non-conference foe in the Go-Hawks of Waverly-Shell Rock. The Go-Hawks entered with a 7-5 record as members of the Northeast Iowa Conference.
It was a back and forth affair throughout most of the night, as the Go-Hawks held a 12-11 lead after one, but a big 2nd quarter gave Webster City a 25-14 lead. The Go-Hawks would respond with a big 3rd quarter, outscoring the Lynx 20-15 in the frame, only trailing 40-34 headed into the 4th. The Go-Hawks defense stepped up when needed in the 4th, as WSR clawed out a 48-46 victory. Cole Marsh led the Go-Hawks with 13 points, while Ty McKinney finished with 15 points for the Lynx.
Both Lynx teams return to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Fort Dodge, St. Edmond for conference play.
