The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they traveled to Iowa Falls to take on the Cadets of Iowa Falls-Alden. The Cadet girls entered with a 5-11 record, while the Cadet boys entered with a 10-6 record.
The girls game set the tone for the night, as the two sides were neck-and-neck all night long. Iowa Falls-Alden maintained a lead through the first half, but CGD used a 15-7 3rd quarter advantage to take a 36-31 lead headed into the final period. The Cadets were able to storm back and take the lead, but a late three from Sawyer Morrical tied the score at 46-46. Cowgirls had one final possession, but it resulted in a turnover. Iowa Falls-Alden’s Hailey Bridgewater missed the initial layup, but Cailin Reimers followed the miss with a putback as the buzzer-sounded to give the Cadets a 48-46 win. Lexie Lane finished with 19 points for CGD, as Sawyer Morrical finished with 18.
The boys game followed as the Cowboys looked to keep pace with Humboldt, ahead of their big matchup this Friday. Much like the girls game, the Cadets and Cowboys matched wits back and forth, with CGD holding a 23-22 lead at halftime. IF-A put together a big 4th quarter to gain a 38-36 lead headed into the 4th. The Cadets were able to put together a 1-point lead late in the game, up 50-49, when Coady Olson hoisted a desperation three and banked it in as time expired to give the Cowboys a 52-50 win.
