The South Hamilton basketball teams made the short trek east on Highway 175 on Thursday night, to face off with their rivals in South Hardin in non-conference action. The South Hardin girls entered at 4-8, while the South Hardin boys entered at 5-9.
The girls game kicked things off as South Hamilton looked to fine tune their game with a season-defining stretch of Nevada, Roland-Story and West Marshall upcoming. The Hawks only led 12-7 at the end of the first, and were tied at 19 at halftime. South Hamilton regained separation in the 3rd quarter, before a big 4th quarter push gave the Hawks a 43-31 win, and pushed them to 13-3. Sophomore guard Makena Galetich did exit the game early on Thursday with an ankle injury.
The boys game followed with South Hamilton looking to score a big win over their eastern rivals in the Tigers, and came out of the gates hot, leading 14-5 after the first. South Hardin would answer in the 2nd, cutting the score to 23-21 at halftime. South Hardin’s offense took over the 2nd half, outscoring the Hawks 38-25 in the half, en route to a 59-48 win, as South Hamilton dropped to 3-13
South Hamilton is back in action on Friday night, as they travel to Nevada to take on the Cubs.
