The Iowa Workforce Development office reported this week that Hamilton County experienced a slight rise in its unemployment rate for December,2021. The rate was at an even 3 percent. In November, the rate was at 2.7 percent. In December of 2020, the Hamilton County unemployment rate stood at 3.5 percent. There were 6,580 people employed in jobs across Hamilton County in December with 200 people unemployed. The unemployment rates for surrounding counties for December included Boone County at 2.5 percent, Franklin County at 2.8 percent, Hardin County at 3 percent, Story County at 2 percent, Webster County at 3.2 percent and Wright County at 2.9 percent. Iowa’s unemployment rate for December was at 3.5 percent.
