The South Hamilton basketball teams were back in action Tuesday night, as they made the trip down Highway 69 to Des Moines, to face off with the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa play. The Saydel girls entered 0-12, while the Saydel boys entered at 5-8.
The girls kicked things off at 6, as South Hamilton looked to keep pace with West Marshall and Roland-Story, and did just that. A fast start for the Hawks saw them jump out to a 19-4 lead at the end of the 1st, before extending it to a 37-9 halftime lead. A 17-0 margin in the 3rd quarter put the Hawks up 54-9 before backups handled the 4th as South Hamilton picked up a 58-17 win and moved to 12-3 on the season.
The boys game followed as South Hamilton looked to extract some revenge on Saydel for a loss in Jewell earlier this season. Saydel had other ideas, however, as a close game the whole way through, once again resulted in a tight Eagles win, by a final score of 43-39. South Hamilton dropped to 3-12 on the season with the loss.
South Hamilton returns to action on Friday, when they make the trip to Nevada to take on the Cubs.
