The Eagle Grove basketball squads return to the hardwood on Tuesday night, as they host the Lake Mills Bulldogs in Top of Iowa Western Conference action. The Lake Mills girls enter with a 5-11 record, while the Lake Mills boys enter with a 15-0 record and ranked #6 in Class 1A.
The girls game showcases an Eagle Grove team looking to get back on the winning track, having dropped 5 in a row since their win against Fort Dodge, St. Edmond. The Eagles look to get leading scorer and rebounder Braxton Steil back, after she missed games against Belmond-Klemme and Algona Bishop Garrigan. Lake Mills enters behind the play of sophomore Taylor Vanek, who averages nearly 11 PPG and is shooting nearly 33% from behind-the-arc.
The boys game follows with Eagle Grove hosting a daunting task in the undefeated, 6th-ranked Bulldogs. Senior Wyatt Helming leads the charge for the Bulldogs, nearly averaging a double-double, with 18.6 PPG and nearly 10 RPG. Senior point guard Bennett Berger has been a consistent scoring threat and a phenomenal distributor, with an assist-to-turnover ration at 7. Eagle Grove will look for big nights from Drake Canavan and Jordan Morris, and some help from supporting roles such as Jaxon Morris and Kale Wildering.
Tipoff is slated for 6 PM at Eagle Grove Elementary School.
