The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams return to action on Tuesday when they host the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action. The Clear Lake girls enter with a 10-4 record and ranked #12 in Class 3A, while the Clear Lake boys enter with a 9-3 record, and on the fringes of the Class 3A rankings.
The girls game kicks off at 6:15, as Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will look to bounce back following their 44-22 loss to Webster City on Friday night. Clear Lake is fresh off 45-40 loss to Class 4A #9 Waverly-Shell Rock on Monday. The Lions are led by senior Jaden Ainley, who averages nearly 19 PPG and is shooting nearly 51% from the field. Sophomore Xada Johnson continues her breakout sophomore campaign, averaging 7.3 PPG, while leading the team in rebounding at 6.8 RPG.
The boys game follows with a matchup of two of the top teams in the North Central Conference, and Clear Lake looking to extract some revenge. The Lions fell at home to the Cowboys 49-39 in December, when the Lions were ranked #2 Class 3A. Clear Lake has rebounded since, and after Carson Toebe missed some time with injury, the senior guard is back to playing at a high-level, averaging nearly 20 PPG, while junior point guard Travaughn Luyobya continues to stuff the stat-sheet. CGD is coming in off a 3-0 week, including a decisive win against Webster City on Friday.
Tipoff is slated for 6:15 PM at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School in Clarion.
