Two KQ-area teams got together on Friday night, as Webster City rode the backroads north to face off with Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in North Central Conference Action. Webster City’s girls entered at 3-11, while the CGD girls were 6-8, while Webster City’s boys entered at 7-4, while CGD’s boys were 11-1.
The girls game kicked off with Webster City looking for revenge from a 41-40 loss to the Cowgirls earlier in the season at Webster City. The Lynx got after it from the start, leading CGD 13-3 after one, but the Cowgirls were able to cut it to 5 by halftime. However, Webster City’s defense continued to stiffen, as the Lynx only allowed 9 2nd half points against CGD en route to a 44-22 win. Kelly Stoakes led the way with 12 points for the Lynx, while Delia Swanson finished with 7 for CGD.
The boys followed as Webster City looked to pull an upset and vault themselves back into the conference title race. That would not be the case as the Cowboys smothering defense and efficient offense proved to be too much for the Lynx. Connor State’s 23 points, combined with Webster City’s 4/16 shooting from three, doomed the Lynx as CGD picked up win number 12 by a score of 56-43.
Webster City returns to action on Tuesday night, as they host the Bulldogs of Hampton-Dumont-CAL. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows also returns to action on Tuesday, when they host the Clear Lake Lions.
