Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling claims 5th at NCC Tournament

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling team made the trip to Fort Dodge on Saturday to compete in the annual North Central Conference tournament at St. Edmond High School. The Cowboys were one of 5 teams entering with a realistic shot at the team title.

The Cowboys would only claim 1 individual conference champion on Saturday, as heavyweight Daniel Chavez took home the conference title at 285, taking a 5-0 decision over Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Carter Heilskov. Garrett Seaba was expected to win the 160 bracket, but the senior was upset in the championship match by Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Carl Barkema, who stunned Seaba in a 3-0 decision, and denied him a chance at 3 straight conference titles.

A trio of Cowboys finished 3rd at the tournament, as Caleb Seaba, Cale Kirstein and Nash Lienemann took bronze at 132, 145 and 182 respectively. 4th place finishers for Clarion-Goldfield-Dows included Mack Seaba at 170 pounds, Erick Perez at 220 pounds and Ethan Traub at 126 pounds. 5th place finishers for the Cowboys were Dietrich Woodley at 106, Rigo Bobadilla at 113, Jacob Ingebritson at 120, Jackson Beisel at 138 and Mason Allen at 195.

The Cowboys finished with 156 points, which awarded them 5th place at the tournament. Next action for the Cowboys will be on February 1st, when they travel to West Hancock for a quadrangular with Manson-Northwest Webster, West Hancock and South Hamilton.
