South Hamilton basketball hosts Madrid in non-conference action on Friday

The South Hamilton Hawks return to the hardwood on Friday night, for their 3rd game of the week as they welcome in the Madrid Tigers from the West Central Activities Conference. The Madrid girls enter with a 1-12 record, while the Madrid boys enter with a 9-4 record.

The girls game kicks off the night as South Hamilton looks for win #12 on the season against a Madrid team that is in-transition with first-year head coach Kelvin Adams. The Tigers are led by junior Ella Santi, who leads the team in points, rebounds and assists. Sophomore Clair Knudsen and senior Addy Dean have also been key contributors for the Tigers in 2021-22. South Hamilton continues to follow the play of sophomore Makena Galetich and junior Halle Feaker, who have combined for over 30 PPG on average.

The boys game follows as South Hamilton welcomes in a Madrid team that has competed near the top of the WCAC throughout the season. The Tigers are led by brothers Kadyn and Toryn Severson. Toryn Severson is one of the top scorers in the conference, averaging 20.5 PPG while shooting 42.5% from behind the arc, and knocking down a state-high 94.8% of his free throws (min. 25 attempts). Senior Brady Leonard has been one of the top rebounders in Class 1A this season, averaging 13 RPG. South Hamilton’s level of play has risen considerably since the turn of the calendar to 2022, and nearly pulled a come-from-behind win against Greene County on Tuesday.

Tipoff is slated for 6 PM from Jim Marsh Court at South Hamilton High School.
