The South Hamilton basketball teams returned to the hardwood for the 2nd night in a row on Tuesday, when they traveled to Jefferson to take on the Rams of Greene County in Heart of Iowa play. The Rams girls entered with a 1-12 record, while the Rams boys entered with a 6-6 record.
The girls got things kicked off as South Hamilton jumped out of the gate to a 15-7 lead at the end of the first, extending it to 33-17 at halftime. The Hawks defense stiffened from there, only allowing 9 second-half points from the Rams as South Hamilton picked up a 62-26 win. Makenna Galetich led all scorers with 20 points for South Hamilton, as the Hawks improved to 11-3.
The South Hamilton boys took the floor looking to avenge their loss to Greene County in Jewell earlier in the year. The Hawks appeared to be in position to do so early on, leading 12-7 at the end of the first, however Greene County erupted for 28, 2nd quarter points to take a 35-27 halftime lead. Greene County would extend the lead to 47-32 in the 2nd half, before an 18-3 South Hamilton run tied the game at 50 a piece. The Rams would make more plays at the end, however, securing a 59-53 win over the Hawks. Richard Daugherty led the Rams with 18, while Teegan Trask finished with 11 for the Hawks.
South Hamilton returns to action on Friday, when they host the Madrid Tigers in non-conference action.
