The Eagle Grove basketball teams hit the hardwood for the 2nd night in a row, as they hosted Wright County rivals and Top of Iowa foe Belmond-Klemme. The Bronco girls entered with a 6-7 record, while the Belmond-Klemme boys entered with an 0-13 record.
The girls game kicked things off as Eagle Grove looked to get back on the winning track following their loss to Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, but Belmond-Klemme had other ideas as they lead 16-5 at the end of the 1st quarter. The Broncos used a stifling press to keep the Eagles down, and held a 34-8 halftime lead. Belmond-Klemme continued to turn defense into offense in the 2nd half, en route to a 57-14 win over the Eagles. Addy Lamb led the Broncos with 13 points.
Eagle Grove’s boys then took to the floor as they faced off with the winless Broncos, as the Eagles were looking to go for the season sweep. The two rivals traded blows back and forth in the first half, but a Jordan Morris three at the horn gave Eagle Grove a 33-26 halftime advantage. The Eagles used an offensive onslaught in the 2nd half to bury the Broncos, as game-total 15 threes were the catalyst in Eagle Grove’s 74-53 win. Drake Canavan led all scorers with 24 points, while Jaxon Morris finished with a career-high 21.
Eagle Grove returns to action on Friday, when they make the trip north to face off with the Golden Bears of Algona Bishop Garrigan.
