Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling hosted a triangular on Tuesday night, as the Cowboys welcomed in fellow Wright County rivals Eagle Grove and Belmond-Klemme for their annual Wright County triangular. The Cowboys entered with a 12-7 dual record, while Eagle Grove held a 12-6 dual record, and Belmond-Klemme held a 4-22 dual record.
The Cowboys began their night with the Broncos of Belmond-Klemme, and picked up forfeits at 3 of the first 4 weights, the only exception an Adam Wessels pin of Jacob Ingebritson at 120. Jackson Beisel and Cale Kirstein picked up back-to-back falls at 138 and 145, before the Seaba brothers picked up their own falls at 160 and 170 as well. Ashtin Willms would pick up a 3-2 decision over Erick Perez at 195, but it was not nearly enough as CGD picked up a 72-9 win over the Broncos.
CGD then closed the dual against Eagle Grove, as the Eagles entered riding off of a stellar performance at the Gary Christensen Invite two weekends prior. However, CGD would have the upper-hand from the get go. The Cowboys took 3 of the first 4 weights, all by fall, to lead 18-3. Korey Anderson picked up a decision at 152, before forfeits at 160 and 170 extended the CGD lead to 30-6. A Trenton Sorenson decision and Jack Mendoza win-by-forfeit cut it to 30-15, but that’s all the close it would get as CGD picked up a 54-21 win over the Eagles.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to the mats on Saturday, when they compete at the NCC Tournament at Fort Dodge, St. Edmond.
