The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to the hardwood for the 2nd night in a row on Tuesday night, as they traveled to Fort Dodge to take on the Gaels of St. Edmond. The St. Edmond girls entered with an 0-11 record, while the St. Edmond boys entered with a 6-5 record.
The girls started the night with CGD looking for the season sweep of the Gaels, and took an 11-7 lead at the end of the first, before extending that to a 24-15 lead at halftime. The Cowgirls continuously built on their lead,, leading by 14 at the end of the third, before closing out a 51-36 lead over the Gaels. Lexie Lane led the way with 24 points for the Cowgirls on Tuesday as they improved to 6-8.
The Cowboys took the floor afterwards, looking to get their 2nd win in as many nights over a Gaels team that sits in the middle of the pack in the NCC. CGD held a 17-11 lead at the end of the first, before extending that lead to double-digits at halftime, leading 33-24. The Cowboys used their hard-nosed defense, and the play of Connor State to keep the Gaels at bay all night en route to their 65-55 win. State led all scorers with 24 points, while Coady Olson finished with 14.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Friday, when they host the Webster City Lynx in a key North Central Conference matchup.
