The South Hamilton Hawks returned to the hardwood on Monday night, as they made the trip south to face off with the Perry Bluejays. Perry’s girls entered with a record of 5-7, while the Perry boys were still in search of their first win with an 0-10 record.
The girls game would remain a close battle the whole way through, as Perry would see a great scoring night from senior Jayna Kenney, who finished with 16 points and shot 5-of-9 from the field. However, the defense of South Hamilton continued to force turnover after turnover, that let the Hawks put the game on ice en route to a 51-40 win. Hallee Feaker would lead the Hawks with 14 points, while Makenna Galetich finished with 12.
The South Hamilton boys took the floor following, as they looked to score a season sweep over the newest members of the Heart of Iowa. The Hawks and Bluejays remained neck-and-neck in the first half, with South Hamilton holding a 21-16 lead, before the Hawk offense opened up in the 3rd quarter. Holding a 36-26 lead after three, the Hawks scored 18 to the Bluejays 6 in the final frame to bring in a 54-32 win. Landon Skartvedt finished with 17 points, while Ryland Ubben finished with 16 points.
South Hamilton returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Jefferson to take on the Rams of Greene County.
